This name is so fitting for God, he is definitely an eminent composer and conductor of music. Right away my thoughts went to the verse in the Bible (Luke 19:40) where Jesus says "even if my people are silenced the rocks will sing out my name" (very rough Chris paraphrase). By nature creation was "composed" (go with me here) by God to sing his praise. If you ever have stood in the wind or by the crashing sea and just listened you can just hear the praises going out to the "Maestro". I went on to check out the Bible to see if I could find more evidence for God as Maestro. Sure enough, plenty of stuff there, I mean the book of Psalms in itself is evidence enough right? I didn't do any sort of exhaustive search or anything like that but just focused on 2 words in my concordance, "sing" and "music". Here are some of the verses that stood out for "sing": Zephaniah 3:17, Psalm 95-100, Psalm 63:5, Acts 16:25, Ephesians 5:19, Psalm 30:4, 47:6, 59:16, 89:1, 101:1 and "music": Judges 5:3, Psalm 27:6, 95:2, 98:4 (actually 95-100), 150. One that stood out for me was Zephaniah 3:17. It says (again rough Chris paraphrase) "the Lord will rejoice over you with singing". God, the Maestro, the eminent composer, the master of music, sings over us with rejoicing. How cool is that? It's like the greatest composer out there today jumping in with the orchestra and playing along.
The last few months something has come over me. A deep love for music. Now I am by no means musically gifted, i would love to be able to play the piano, but don't know if that will even happen. I like to think that I sound decent when I sing, don't know if that's true or not but I still love to sing, especially to God. So this deep love of music has been kind of intriguing for me. One thing I have been doing a lot of is writing songs. To be honest I don't know where it came from but it's been cool. I like to think of it as my contribution to the music world. Mentioning all this, it's needless to say that when I began to think of God as Maestro I got pretty excited and to go with my new found "song writing skills" I wrote a song relating to this new name of God.
Maestro
(from Psalm 95-100, Zephaniah 3:17, Luke 19:40)
(verse 1)
When I think of you I just want to sing
You've placed a song in my heart
All of creation sings your praise
Your holy music rains down from heaven
(chorus)
You are the great Maestro
I want to sing for you
O God will you also sing with me
(bridge)
Let us sing with the rocks and all creation
God sing over me
(from Psalm 95-100, Zephaniah 3:17, Luke 19:40)
(verse 1)
When I think of you I just want to sing
You've placed a song in my heart
All of creation sings your praise
Your holy music rains down from heaven
(chorus)
You are the great Maestro
I want to sing for you
O God will you also sing with me
(bridge)
Let us sing with the rocks and all creation
God sing over me
